Of all the domestic competitions, the League Cup has not been the most successful for Manchester United. The club has won the trophy just six times in its history, most recently in 2023. This was the first trophy of Erik ten Hag's tenure as club manager, and followed the previous win in 2017. In 2010 the club became just one of three clubs to win the trophy in back-to-back seasons (alongside Liverpool and Nottingham Forest).

The League Cup has been the subject of sponsorship deals for some time, so is known by a few names. For Manchester United's first victory in the competition in 1992 the League Cup was sponsored by Rumbelows - so was known as the 'Rumbelows Cup' (programme pictured to the left). For the club's victories in 2006, 2009 and 2010 the League Cup was sponsored by Carling - so was known as the 'Carling Cup'. The 2023 competition was sponsored by Carabao - so was known as the 'Carabao EFL Cup'.
Sir Alex Ferguson remains the most successful Manchester United Manager in the League Cup - having won four victories during his tenure. Just another record for the great man! José Mourinho and Erik ten Hag are the only other Manchester United Managers to have won this trophy.
